The Nature park in Goldau

Since childhood I love animals. Why? Because they are real! They are not wearing masks, not lying, they are not false and not aggressive if you respecting them. Also, what is the best about animals, they have no jealousy and they love us people as we are.

_MG_5401

One day my friend Anna called me and asked if I would like to go to the wildlife park Goldau (canton Zug). Anna with her family decided to visit this great place. I said “Yes” immediately. We had luck with the weather and enjoyed for many hours a walk in the winter sunshine. Little Kian enjoyed adventure same as we did. The park is really beautiful. It is not a regular zoo. It was built as wild nature- and animal- protection area. Yes, some animals are caged. But these are species of protected wild animals. Park Goldau coworking with scientists and investigators which are interested in saving wildlife nature. The area of the park is a refuge for trees, birds, little rodents, some species of the wild animals and of course wild goats and roes.

_MG_5410-Bearbeitet

What I really loved is that roes and goats are walking free! They are tamed and everyone can pet them, take a picture and feed them as well! There are food automats in the park so visitors can buy a portion of food very easily. The food looks like pressed hay granules. Of course, most of the goats are already waiting for you near the food automat. They are always ready to get some food! Must say that some of them are really fat and bold. It was a lot of fun to get with the wild animals in contact!

IMG_9638IMG_9644_MG_5476_MG_5430_MG_5472_MG_5419_MG_5478_MG_5486

After a coffee break, we continued our visit. Must say that in Goldau kids having a really good entertainment! When parents are enjoying their coffee kids could play in a toy corner inside the restaurant or on the outside playground.  On our way, we met some domestic animals. The funniest were donkeys. Especially one! He looked like out of cartoons with a grumpy face. Anyway, you can see that animals here are really happy. I stopped to watch the donkeys and at this moment came a huge pig and was so happy that I scratched her behind her ears. In Goldau you can see beautiful Sirian bears with big claws! Unfortunately, in Switzerland, the last wild bear was killed in 1904…

IMG_9668IMG_9672IMG_9648IMG_9631IMG_9637IMG_9655IMG_9629

I highly recommend The Nature park in Goldau to all animal lovers! With kids or without them you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere around beautiful nature. In the park, architects built a huge wooden tower. From the top, you can look at the amazing surroundings and landscapes. There is beautiful view on the main mountain of the region – Rigi! In Goldau park kids and adults can learn a lot about wild nature of Alps. The main goal of this place is to save the wild nature. And I am supporting this beautiful and kind idea! People forgetting that they are also children of nature. A lot of humans having no respect for nature in our times…The Nature park in Goldau is a wonderful example that wild animals could live in peace with the humans. And humans can protect them.

Where to rent a horse?

In Interlaken, the most popular stables are Reitschule Voegeli. They have everything you need, they speak well Englisch, Spanish, Italian, German and French. This is a professional and clean place. Horses are well trained and instructors as well. For little riders, they have cute ponies. Also, they have carriage service in the city. Normally you find them waiting for you near train station Interlaken West or Hotel Viktoria.

Be safe!

Before you mount a horse, you should be a realist and know exactly your level of riding. So many people thinking that they can ride, but in reality, they even can not sit on the horse properly. Horses are always horses, this animal can be super cute, but from one moment to another they can be scared of something very unexpected. So you should be ready to react properly on not planned movements of your horse and have good balance as well. Always listen to your instructor, because they know horses better than you self. To be safe you should always wear a helmet and have no fear for the horses. The helmets are available in the riding school. You should also wear good closed shoes with a little heel. Like this, you are protected from slipping your feet into the stirrup. Horses can feel your emotions very well. Be relaxed. Never lie about your level of riding. No one will judge you if you are a beginner. Your ego can cost you more than you think. Normally instructors giving horses which are comparable to your riding level. If you are a good rider – you become a good horse, which means more blood and energy. So be aware that this horse is more sensitive and powerful than a horse for the beginner.

A little bit of a deep snow from Gstaad.

Our blog is not just a blog. This is our archive. Before, we had photo albums, but we are moving a lot…Photo albums are quite big, take a lot of space and heavy (we had big ones)…That’s why we had an idea to start our travel blog. To have all our trips in one place and also it is a great opportunity to share it with friends and another people ❤️

So, today I will post some last winter photos, which Samuel took alone, without me. I was working then. This look like a fairy tale, no?

Castles of Sion, Wallis

Sion

Sion is a capital city of Canton Wallis (Valais), Switzerland. It has a huge history which begins in prehistoric times. The oldest trace of the human settlement comes from 6200 BC during the late Mesolithic (Wikipedia*). Sion has beautiful medieval city and four castles. We have visited just two of them.

Until our days is the riches fortified Bishop residence in the country. Valère is Swiss heritage site of national significance. The basilica was built in 1200-1300 years.

Some historical facts:

After the last king of Burgundy, Rudolph III gave the country of Valais to Bishop Hugo (998-1017), princes Bishops became the most powerful spiritual and social nobles in the Upper Rhone Valey. Sion became the political and religious centre of the region. That’s why the Cathedral had two functions and became more and more fortified to have a function not just as a church, but also as a protective building.

Valère was always “upgraded”. First buildings were in Romanesque style, later came gothic accents and the rest (The current choir stalls) were added in the middle of the 17-th century.

Medieval atmosphere

Our opinion

Definitely, a place to visit! Beautiful, romantic and of course will be the point for all middle times lovers. Stunning views guaranteed. It is not that big. Don’t need a lot of time but comfortable shoes – must have! Because you have to hike up to this amazing place. Not long, but still uphill and downhill. Don’t forget to take water with you and some snacks.

Tourbillon Castle 13th century

fullsizeoutput_7ae

After Valère you can walk to the Tourbillon castle. It is also a few minutes of hiking but it worth it. From the castle left not so much, so it is more ruins. We were in February, so to come inside we couldn’t. Castle closed from the middle of November until the middle of March. But still, you can visit it for free and walk around the beautiful medieval building. Be careful! It can be dangerous, so if you are with kids, keep them close. Rock is very high and one part of the castle is finishing exactly at the end of it!

Tourbillon
Dangerous part!

Some historical facts:

Castle was built in 1290 – 1308 years by the Bishop of Sion as his residence. After a while, it became just summer residence of followed Bishops and a symbol of spiritual and social power. A big part of the castle was destroyed during the Raaron affair in 1417. After, it was rebuilt in 1440 – 1450. Then the castle was destroyed in a fire in 1788. Just in 1966-1969, it was restored and again in 1993-1996. It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance.

Our opinion:

Great place to visit. Especially in not a season time when there are not so many people. We were here in the evening and watched the sunset. So romantic place for the picnic. Surely, in Summer is super hot (like in all Wallis), but spring and autumn are definitely the perfect time to spend some great moments around the castle.

The five things about Castle Church of Spiez (Schlosskirche)

If locals say the truth, then we are looking at the most beautiful bay in Europe (we also heard “in the World”)…Anyway, Spiez is really beautiful! Turquoise water in the lake, stunning Alps view and middle ages castle with its church. About the castle, we already posted here.

The five things about the Castle Church of Spiez /// 5

1. Castle Church of Spiez or Schlosskirche is one of the oldest churches in region Bern. It calls 1000 years old church. There are few of them around the lake of Thun. You have also one in Einigen, and one in Thun. The first date about the church in Spiez is 762 AD. It was built with help of Irish missioners which came to the region of Thun in 500 AD. This church which we can see today is probably built around 900-1000 AD.

img_4384
Castle Church of Spiez. View from the Castle.

2.An interesting part of the church is a tower. Which is probably even older than the church. But the spire is added just in 1628.

img_4372

3.Inside you can see old frescoes, which are quite faded, but still interesting. They take you to the early middle ages…

4.In the church is a coffin of Sir Albrecht von Erlach. Erlach was one of the main family which was based in the Castle of Spiez. Other families were Strättligen and Bubenberg.

img_4378

5.The church is still active and it is a beloved place for weddings.

img_4373
Church is prepared for a wedding!

P.S.

To visit the church you don’t have to pay. The only thing – please, be quiet…When we visited this place it was an English speaking family inside as well. We don’t know it was American or Australian people, maybe other nationality, but they were so disrespectful to other people inside the church and actually to a holy place as well. They were very loud speaking, screaming and laughing, so we had to go out and wait until they will disappear…Please, have a respect for other people, even if you do not believe in God and Christian churches…Thank you.

Head of Switzerland – Bundeshaus.

There is one very important day in Switzerland – 1st of August. All country celebrating National Day. By day there are many attractions for folk and tourists and by night all Switzerland is full of colourful fireworks.

One of the main attractions in Bern-city this day is a possibility to visit Bundeshaus (Building of Swiss Parliament) for free! You have to be ready to stay in a long line – many people want things for free in Switzerland 🙂 And is one of two possibilities to take photos inside.

fullsizeoutput_60a

About Bundeshaus

It was built at the beginning of XX century, 1894 – 1902 year by architect Hans Auer. Swiss Parliament House is 64 m high, and the highest part inside of the building is 33 meters. There, on the sailing, is one very important mosaic – Swiss cross, all 22 cantons (1904) and phrase in Latin “Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno”. Interesting, and remind three Musketeers: “All for one, one for all”. Under mosaic, you can see a statue of three Switzerland grounders.

Unfortunately, we have just this photo without main points…

Lobby

Inside the building, you have two most important chambers: National Council and Council of States.

National Council Chamber:

National Council Chamber

Council of States Chamber:

IMG_3633

Politic basics in Switzerland

Switzerland is proud to be a democratic country. Everything that parliament decides based on the voting. Actually folk decides what is going on in their country.  In Switzerland is not just one president – they have 7 presidents. Just one person chosen by another 6 to be ala President at the meetings, where all 7 are not able to be at the same time. Anyway, even this One President representing all seven in one piece. It never happens that just one person makes a decision in Switzerland’s politic.

conference chamber

There are 26 cantons and each canton representing two persons. Except for Appenzell Innerhoden, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Basel-Stadt, Basel-Land, Nidwalden, and Obwalden – from all this half-cantons going just one person. After, all these councils meet each other in the Council of States Chamber.

There are 12 parties in National Council Chamber at this moment, but in all Switzerland is much more. They have a different number of chairs for every party. The most popular party in folk get the most numbers of chairs. At this moment is SVP, they have 65 chairs from 200. It is nearly 30%. SVP is a folk party, they are helping Swiss inhabitants to have a better life and better conditions to have a business, also a small one. In Switzerland, they also call SVP as a “farmer party”. Maybe, from one side they are right, because in Switzerland still, farmers are a big part of inhabitants and mostly they choose SVP. And they have really good conditions to do their job and big support from the government as well.

Other parties are:

SP – Social Democratic Party of Switzerland. They support classical democracy and pacifism. “Woman friendly”(Wikipedia). 43 chairs in National Council Chamber.

FDP – The liberals. It is the joint-largest party in the Federal Council, the third-largest party in the National Council, and the largest in the Council of States(Wikipedia). 33 chairs in National Council Chamber.

Voting

Voting in Switzerland is organised very often in many questions. Inhabitants get voting blank by post where they have to answer “yes” or “no” in different situations. It is not just who is next going to be Council. Also about daily life decisions like to build a new parking place in Centrum or not? Or to destroy old houses and build a new? And and and…

Everyone can be engaged politically. Many young people are also politically active and trying to fight for their ideas. There are many young people which are trying to save our planet like Young Green Party. Young people fight against atomic energy and conflicts between people, also against racism and fascism.

And at the end of this post, we would like to say that all in all Switzerland is a great country to be. It is safe, clean, kind and friendly. Here are handsome conditions to travel and incredibly organised railway (which actually belong to Swiss government!) – SBB. Yes, it is expensive, but you have great roads, security, well organised public transport and clean pure nature…
